Where Are Those Wild Things?

art,interesting tidbits 26 September 2009 | 1 Comment

wildthingsWe’re all getting pretty excited about the Where The Wild Things Are movie around our house. The trailer looks great. I’ve found a couple of neat sites to whet my appetite even more as the release date nears. Does anyone else remember the Where The Wild Things space in the Metreon when it first opened?

Swedish Criminals Commit Totally Kick-Ass Heist

Police found the robbers' helicopter in a forest about 10 kilometres north of Stockholm.

OK, I’m copping my headline from The Awl as it pretty much says it all. These guys planted a fake bomb to distract the police, stole a helicopter, flew over a Cash Depot building in Sweden, dropped in through a glass pyramid, blew up the vaults, got the loot, and climbed back up into the helicopter making off with millions in just 20 minutes. I’ll totally pay to see the movie version.

Southeast Storm Photos

interesting tidbits 25 September 2009 | 0 Comments

The Boston Globe is really establishing itself as the place to go see powerful images of news events. These photos of the recent storms in the Southeast U.S. caught my eye, I had heard about some bad weather out that way, but nothing makes the point clearer than some good photos. Man, it was really raining!

Very Large Pink Knit Bunny

art,interesting tidbits 23 September 2009 | 0 Comments

I’ve had a tab with this photo open on my browser for weeks and every time I look at it I smile. According to Inhabitots it took four people five years to make. I can’t quite imagine the motivation or the effort involved in knitting a bunny this big. But I’m glad someone could.

FOTC Coming to Rock Band

interesting tidbits,music 23 September 2009 | 1 Comment

This rocks. According to Joystiq, Jermaine and Brett revealed in an interview at the Emmy’s that some of their songs would soon be making it over to Rock Band. Kindy will be thrilled and I can almost already hear the raucous FOTC sessions coming from our basement…

Stone Trees of Yakutsk

art,travel 21 September 2009 | 0 Comments

This photo of the Stone Trees of Yakutsk is certainly intriguing, but the journey to see them in person sounds pretty harsh. Even if it takes you through Russian “fields of wild hemp flower”, I think I’ll hold off on adding this one to our travel list.

Bay Area Lightning Storm

art 17 September 2009 | 2 Comments

We don’t get very much lightning and thunder out here in northern California, but last weekend a powerful lightning storm passed through in the early morning, waking everyone I know up. Frank Fennema went out and took this spectacular photo of the Golden Gate bridge during the storm.
