According to this Chinese media blog, the city of Wuhan was isolated from the outside world earlier this week by extreme fog, with some of the freeways into the city being closed for up to 9 hours. The photographs published by the Wuhan Evening News are stunning.

This photo of the Stone Trees of Yakutsk is certainly intriguing, but the journey to see them in person sounds pretty harsh. Even if it takes you through Russian “fields of wild hemp flower”, I think I’ll hold off on adding this one to our travel list.

Some simply stunning photos in this year’s winners from Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk. This image is called “Caught on Tape” and was taken by Gtilute in Pittsburgh, PA. At first I thought the person in the distance in this photo was doing Tai-Chi, but on closer inspection they’re riding a skateboard. Click on over to Scott’s blog to see all the winners.

I was very impressed with these photos of the new Hoover Dam bridge taking shape. It’s not due to be completed until next year, but R.J. Evans has a nice collection of photos spanning (sorry!) the life of the project. I especially like the images where you can see both sides reaching towards the as yet non-existing middle section. The bridge will have taken over 10 years to design and build, and these photos give some sense as to the breath-taking scope of this massive engineering project. I look forward to some day seeing in it in person.

Definitely silly, but there is also something revealing about these photos that have father and infant sons faces reversed with Photoshop. Manbabies.com.

Our internet friend John Wells in Turlingua, Texas, posted this funny photo and accompanying speculation on how the longhorn got the bird nest on her horn.

Karl Hienzhille at the Beard and Mustache Competition
As a pretty hairy guy who has sported a beard pretty much ever since I could grow facial hair, I was truly impressed with the dedication and sheer wackiness of some of the beards chronicled by
Matthew Rainwaters in his
beardfolio. Rainwaters is working on a documentary about the Beard and Mustache Championships in Anchorage Alaska, and if the initial images are any indication, the film should be lovely.
